Paediatric physiotherapy can help babies, children and adolescents in number of ways. Some of the more common reasons for seeking assistance include:

 

  • Delayed gross motor milestones (eg poor head control, rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, running, jumping etc)

  • Conditions affecting movement including but not limited to congenital disorders, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, down syndrome and juvenile arthirits.

  • Plagiocephaly (head shape asymmetries)

  • Torticollis (head preference to one side)

  • Poor co-ordination/ motor planning

  • Muscular weakness decreased strength

  • Poor posture and endurance

  • Joint/muscular pain

  • Regular trips and falls

  • Unusual walking patterns (e.g. toe walking, intoeing, knock knees/bow legs)

  • Rehabilitation following surgery or injury

  • Equipment prescription such as supportive footwear, orthotics, standing frames, walkers, bikes and wheelchairs
